   INTRODUCTION
The Centre for Continuing Professional Education (CPE Centre) was established in 1999 to provide continuing professional education and lifelong learning opportunities to college staff and alumni and also to the public. As part of TARC’s commitment to continuing education and lifelong learning, the CPE Centre is entrusted with the important role of designing, developing and delivering a wide variety of programmes to meet the diverse learning needs of its staff, alumni and students as well as the general public.
 
   OBJECTIVES
The principal objectives of the CPE are:
  • To coordinate and organise staff development programmes and to support the professional development of faculty and staff of TARC;

  • To be a training provider under the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRDC) or Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Berhad (PSMB);


  • To be an organiser for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Lifelong Learning Programmes;


  • To be a focal point for student placements;


  • To provide administrative services and facility support for the organisation of professional conferences, seminars, workshops and talks.
 
   PROGRAMMES & SERVICES
   Training Provider
 

TARC is registered as a Training Provider under the HRDC/PSMB, Ministry of Human Resources. Public courses, seminars and workshops on professional, managerial and technical areas as well as soft skills are conducted on a regular basis. These programmes are open to the general public, to assist working adults to obtain new skills, competencies and knowledge to keep abreast with changing markets and technological advancement.

The CPE Centre also conducts industry-specific and professional-specific CPD courses for professionals as well as customised in-house training programmes for corporate clients.

 
 
   Staff Development
 
Programmes for staff development are directed at enhancing the level of professionalism, competence and knowledge among college staff. These programmes cover three (3) main areas:
  • Teacher Development Programmes

  • Professional and Technical Development Programmes

  • Personal Development and Soft Skills Programmes
 
 
   Teacher Development Programmes
 
Teacher Development workshops are organised to equip teaching staff with knowledge and skills in teaching and learning pedagogies to enhance their effectiveness in teaching, assessment and management of students and their learning processes.
 
 
   Professional and Technical Development Programmes
 
These programmes are aimed at updating knowledge and enhancing the professionalism, competence and skills of staff in their respective fields of expertise.
 
 
   Personal Development and Soft Skills Programmes
 
These programmes provides learning opportunities to staff to acquire other skills and knowledge, particularly soft skills to enhance their personal development and effectiveness.
 
 
   Lifelong Learning
 
In line with lifelong learning, the CPE Centre also conducts talks and courses which enhance the personal, social and cultural interests of individuals on topics such as health, fitness, living skills and other general topics to staff, students and the public. These are aimed at creating awareness and enhancing understanding in various areas, which will, in turn, lead to self-directed inquiry of knowledge and learning for personal enrichment and development.
 
 
   Student Placement
 
The main activities under student placement are to provide up-to-date information and counselling on local and overseas universities and their programmes for further education. Talks and counselling on opportunities for further education are organised regularly for students.
 
 
   TRAINING FACILITIES
   Kuala Lumpur Main Campus
 
With well-equipped and dedicated training facilities, the CPE Centre also acts as an organiser of conference, seminar, workshops as well as offering its facilities and rooms for hire. The facilities available at the KL Main Campus include:
  • Seminar rooms with various seating capacity;

  • Lecture theatre which can accommodate up to 110 persons;

  • Computer laboratories; and

  • Single and twin-sharing accommodation at Rumah Tetamu
 
 
   Rumah Tetamu
 

TARC’s Rumah Tetamu comprising 20 single and 11 twin-sharing rooms, is set in a serene environment overlooking hills and greenery. The rooms with attached bathrooms, are full furnished and air-conditioned.

Guests of Rumah Tetamu can also enjoy sports and recreational facilities such as swimming pool, gym and squash, as well as having their meals at the cafeteria which are all located within walking
distance of Rumah Tetamu.

 
 
   Kuala Lumpur Learning Centre
 

In March 2005, a learning centre with state-of-the-art equipment and training facilities was set up in the heart of Kuala Lumpur City to bring learning closer to working adults and professionals. The KL Learning Centre, located at Wisma MCA, Jalan Ampang has an area of 5,200 square feet comprising four (4) seminar rooms, one (1) multi-media laboratory, a meeting room, two (2) discussion rooms, a reception and counseling area.

Equipped with wireless access facilities, the KL Learning Centre provides an excellent learning environment to adult learners.

It is also easily accessible as it is only 5 minutes walk from the PUTRA LRT at Ampang Park Station.
