Sport and Exercise Science

The Sport and Exercise Science programme is designed to cover the application of scientific principles on three branches of science - biomechanics, physiology and interdisciplinary approaches. The sports science area largely offers expert scientific backup for top sport training and performance, while exercise science has a central role in physical programmes aimed at improving general health. The qualified sport and exercise scientist can expect to have a broad technical and physiological knowledge, and stands to benefit from current developments within the field offering a professional status that is recognised worldwide.

The Advanced Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical and practical knowledge relevant to sport and exercise science. It develops a clear understanding of the scientific principles underlying sports performance and exercise. Students learn to apply their knowledge in laboratory work, coaching, and projects. This programme covers topics on exercise physiology, kinesiology and biomechanics, sports for special population, sports and recreation. Students will be trained on methodologies used in the analysis and interpretation of data in sports. It also provides training to students for professions in health and fitness and to enable them to generate new knowledge in sports science. It focuses on the scientific testing methods on sports performance and testing. Students will also have the opportunity to get practical experiences at physical performing testing, psychological skills trainings, teaching exercise classes and personal training.
