Microelectronics and Physics
 
The Microelectronics and Physics course covers a wide range of topics in electronics and physics, particularly in semiconductor physics, with emphasis upon their practical applications and utilities. It trains students in methods of design and development across a broad range of electronic, microelectronic and computer engineering applications. It aims to develop students’ analytical and logical thinking skills.
 
The Microelectronics and Physics course offered in the Microelectronics and Physics Division is well equipped with a wide range of hardware and software facilities to enhance students’ learning.
 
This course covers digital electronics, analogue electronics, circuit analysis, physical science, electrical principles, microprocessor systems, software programming, firmware programming, microelectronic integrated circuit, and modern integrated circuit (IC) design concepts.
   Academic and Professional Progression

The standard of the Diploma in Science (Microelectronics and Physics) is equivalent to the 1st year of a relevant Bachelor Degree. Graduates can further their studies to:
a)
Advanced Diploma in Science cum BS Degree (Junior & Senior Years) (Microelectronics and Physics) at TAR College.
b)
Relevant Bachelor (Honours) Degree courses at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) or other universities on advanced standing / credit transfer.
 
   
   Career Prospects
 

The Diploma in Science course prepares graduates for employment in most areas of electronic industries, particularly in the integrated circuits (IC), assembling and manufacturing industries. Graduates could seek jobs as electronic hardware/software technicians or as engineering or scientific technical support staff.

 
   Minimum Entry Requirements
   
I Diploma in Science (Microelectronics and Physics) - Admission to Semester 1
 
  • Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) as follows:-
        (i)
    5 credits which must include Additional Mathematics and Physics
        (ii) Pass in English Language
         
      OR
       
     
  • Certificate in Electronics and Computer Technology from TAR College
       
    II
    Diploma in Science (Microelectronics and Physics) - Admission on advanced standing to Semester 4
      Students with the following qualifications will be accorded credit transfer/advanced standing to enable them to complete the Diploma in 1 year.
       
      Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM)/A Levels with Principal passes in Physics and Mathematics T /
    Mathematics A
       
      Plus
       
      Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) as follows:-
      (i) 3 credits which must include Additional Mathematics and Physics
      (ii) Pass in English Language
       
     
    A principal or subsidiary pass at STPM level is acceptable in lieu of a credit for the corresponding SPM subject.
       
     
    Applicants who only have a pass in SPM Bahasa Malaysia will be required to obtain a credit in SPM Bahasa Malaysia or equivalent before the award of Diploma.
       
     
    A pass in the English Language (1119 Level) course conducted by the Extra-Mural Studies Department (EMSD)
    is recognised as satisfying the English Language requirement for admission to the Diploma course.
