The Microelectronics with Computer Communications
course covers a wide range of topics in computer, electronics,
communications and networking. The course aims to produce graduates
with sound electronic and networking foundations and with strong
analytical and logical thinking skills as well as good hands-on
skills. Students studying this course are prepared for Cisco’s
Netacad (CCNA) examination simultaneously. |
| |
The Microelectronics with Computer Communications
course offered in the Microelectronics and Physics Division is well
equipped with a wide range of software, hardware and networking
facilities to enhance students’ learning. |
| |
The course covers wide range yet in-depth knowledge
in computer, networking and electronics. The syllabus covers electronics,
microcontroller systems, computer systems, object-oriented programming,
system analysis, computer networking, data communications and telecommunications.
Students are prepared with the fundamental knowledge and skills
needed for the Cisco networking professional examination (CCNA). |
| The standard of the Diploma in
Science
(Microelectronics with Computer
Communications) is equivalent to the 1st year
of a relevant Bachelor Degree. Graduates can
further their studies to: |
a) |
Advanced Diploma in Science cum
BS
Degree (Junior & Senior Years)
(Microelectronics with Computer
Communications) at TAR College. |
b) |
Relevant Bachelor (Honours) Degree
courses at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman
(UTAR) or other universities on advanced
standing / credit transfer. |

Information and communication technology is increasingly being
used by
industry and commerce as a means of gaining a commercial advantage
either
by reducing manual costs or by improving the quality of their products
or
services. Advancement in computer and microelectronic systems is
leading to a
rapid change in information and communication technology. Under this
trend of
rapid development in ICT, the demand for ICT personnel in communication
and
networking will continue unabated. |
| |
| The Diploma in Science course is thus to
prepare graduates for employment in
all sectors of industries where information and communication technology
is employed. Graduates could seek jobs as programmers and network
or computer
systems hardware/software technical support staff. |
