Computer Science and Management Mathematics
 
This is a double major course where equal weightage is placed between Computer Science and Management Mathematics.
 
In Computer Science, students learn the principles and skills for information system design and development, including programming, database design, web page design and development, and other related subjects. Students will learn programming languages such as C, XHTML, Java and VB.Net.
 
Students are also trained in mathematical techniques, which would greatly enhance their skill in computer science. The mathematics training prepares students for more advanced mathematics relevant to applications of mathematics to business management and social sciences. The management mathematics subjects include algebra, calculus and statistics.
    Academic and Professional Progression

The standard of the Diploma in Science (Computer Science and Management Mathematics) is equivalent to the 1st year of a relevant Bachelor Degree. Graduates can further their studies to:
a)
Advanced Diploma in Science cum BS Degree (Junior & Senior Years) of Campbell University, USA (Computer Science and Management Mathematics) at TAR College.
b)
Relevant Bachelor (Honours) Degree courses at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) or other universities on advanced standing / credit transfer.
   
    Career Prospects
 
Diploma graduates may find employment in a wide area of industries such as banking and finance, manufacturing, consultancy firms, insurance, software houses and computer vendors. Graduates may work as programmers, end-user support staff, assistant system analysts, IT administrators or executives, systems officers, database administrators, web designers and other related jobs.
 
    Minimum Entry Requirements
   
  Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) as follows:-
  (i) 5 credits which must include Mathematics
  (ii) Pass in English Language
   
 
Applicants who only have a pass in SPM Bahasa Malaysia will be required to obtain a credit in SPM Bahasa Malaysia or equivalent before the award of Diploma.
   
 
A pass in the English Language (1119 Level) course conducted by the Extra-Mural Studies Department (EMSD) is recognised as satisfying the SPM English Language requirement for admission to the Diploma course.
