Materials and Manufacturing Engineering

This Diploma course aims to produce engineering graduates with a sound foundation in materials science and manufacturing engineering.

Computer-aided-design and drafting, engineering applications of materials, physical metallurgy and transformations, heat-treatment and corrosion control, structure and processing of materials and materials selection and protection form a significant part of the course.

This Diploma course is suitable for students seeking careers in manufacturing industries or firms such as those concerned with iron and steel products, plastics, ceramics and composite materials.

   Academic and Professional Progression

The standard of the Diploma in Technology (Materials and Manufacturing Engineering) is equivalent to the 1st year of a relevant Bachelor Degree. Graduates can further their studies to:
a)
Advanced Diploma in Technology (Materials and Manufacturing Engineering) at TAR College.
b)
Relevant Bachelor (Honours) Degree courses at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) or other universities on advanced standing / credit transfer.

   Professional Accreditation / Exemption

Please refer to the 'Professional Accreditvation / Exemption'.

   Career Prospects

Excellent job opportunities and career prospects exist for Materials and Manufacturing Engineering graduates in many fields and they are in constant demand by the industries. Graduates may find employment in a wide range of manufacturing industries or firms such as those concerned with iron and steel products, quality assurance, processing and fabrication of metals, plastics, rubber, ceramics, composites and glasses in machinery or heavy industries as well as in chemical and petroleum industries.

Graduates may be employed as engineers, executives or support staff in a wide variety of fields such as design and development, marketing, sales, management, quality assurance, testing and maintenance.
