Diploma in Social Science (Counselling)
 
The Diploma in Social Science (Counselling) course aims to educate, train and develop students who intend to pursue careers in counselling-related work. It develops an appreciation and understanding of this area of work through a range of subjects covering different aspects of counselling, psychology, and basic management. Both theory and practical experience are incorporated in this course.
 
 
    Academic and Professional Progression
 
The standard of the Diploma in Social Science (Counselling) is equivalent to the 1st or even 2nd year of a relevant Bachelor Degree. Graduates can further their studies to:
a)
Advanced Diploma in Social Science (Psychology) at TAR College.
b)
Bachelor of Social Science (Hons) Psychology at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) or other universities on advanced standing / credit transfer.
c)
Final year of Bachelor of Psychology at University of South Australia on advanced standing / credit transfer.
 
    Career Prospects
 
Diploma graduates may find employment in work related to psychology, social work, personnel / human resource management, or customer services. They may also pursue further education in the area of counselling or psychology.
 
     Minimum Entry Requirements
   
Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) as follows:-
(i) 5 credit passes in any arts / science subjects
(ii) Pass in Bahasa Melayu^ and English Language
 
^ Students who do not have a credit pass in SPM Bahasa Melayu must complete and pass AEMS1022 Bahasa Melayu
 
A pass in the General English course conducted by the Extra-Mural Studies Department (EMSD) is recognised as satisfying the English Language requirement for admission to the Diploma course.
