The Diploma in Social Science
(Counselling) course aims to educate, train
and develop students who intend to pursue
careers in counselling-related work. It
develops an appreciation and
understanding of this area of work through
a range of subjects covering different
aspects of counselling, psychology, and
basic management. Both theory and
practical experience are incorporated in this
course. |
| Academic and Professional Progression |
The standard of
the Diploma in Social Science (Counselling) is equivalent to the
1st or even 2nd year of a relevant Bachelor Degree. Graduates can
further their studies to: |

| a) | Advanced Diploma in Social
Science (Psychology) at TAR College. |
| b) | Bachelor of Social
Science (Hons) Psychology at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR)
or other universities on advanced standing / credit transfer. |
| c) | Final year of Bachelor of Psychology at University
of South Australia on advanced standing / credit transfer. |
| Career Prospects |
Diploma graduates may find employment
in work related to psychology, social work,
personnel / human resource management,
or customer services. They may also
pursue further education in the area of
counselling or psychology. |
| Minimum Entry Requirements |
| Sijil
Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) as follows:- |

| (i) | 5 credit passes in any arts / science subjects |
| (ii) | Pass in Bahasa Melayu^ and English Language |
| ^ Students who do not have a credit pass in SPM Bahasa Melayu must complete and pass AEMS1022 Bahasa Melayu | |
A pass in the
General English course conducted by the Extra-Mural Studies Department
(EMSD) is recognised as satisfying the English Language requirement
for admission to the Diploma course. |
