Diploma in Mass Communication (Journalism)
 
This course is catered for the students who wish to develop a career in journalism either as journalists, reporters, writers, or information researchers in mass media organisations. Students should have keen interest in current events and possess analytical skills.
 
Throughout the course, students will be exposed to professional media reporting. Students will also be given the opportunity to acquire trilingual skills to enhance their credential in their chosen field of journalism.
 
 
    Academic and Professional Progression
 
The standard of the Diploma in Mass Communication (Journalism) is equivalent to the 1st or even 2nd year of a relevant Bachelor Degree. Graduates can further their studies to:
a) Advanced Diploma in Mass Communication (Journalism) at TAR College.
b)
Relevant Bachelor (Honours) Degree courses at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) or other universities on advanced standing / credit transfer.
   
    Career Prospects
 
Graduates may find employment in mass media organisations as journalists, reporters, editors, feature writers, correspondents or information researchers. They could also seek employment in advertising, marketing, publishing, media management, public relations, etc.
 
     Minimum Entry Requirements
   
Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) as follows:-
(i) 5 credit passes in any arts / science subjects
(ii) Pass in Bahasa Melayu^ and English Language
 
^ Students who do not have a credit pass in SPM Bahasa Melayu must complete and pass AEMS1022 Bahasa Melayu
 
A pass in the General English course conducted by the Extra-Mural Studies Department (EMSD) is recognised as satisfying the English Language requirement for admission to the Diploma course.
