| Diploma in Mass Communication (Media Studies) |
| |
The Diploma in Mass Communication (Media
Studies) course aims to promote literacy in an
information society where audiences are
frequently exposed to multifarious forms of media
content. There has been long-standing concern
over the negative effects of the traditional media
such as television and film. With the advent of
modern technology, new forms of mass media
have developed, transmitting messages at
greater speed and transcending international
boundaries. There are needs to create a greater
understanding of the mass media; their functions,
impact and the future direction of the media. |
| |
| |
| |
| The standard of the Diploma in Mass
Communication (Media Studies) is equivalent to
the 1st or even 2nd year of a relevant Bachelor
Degree. Graduates can further their studies to:
|
| a) |
Advanced Diploma in Mass Communication
(Media Studies) at TAR College. |
| b) |
Relevant Bachelor (Honours) Degree
courses at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman
(UTAR) or other universities on advanced
standing / credit transfer. |
| |
|
| |
|
Diploma graduates may seek employment in the mass media industry
such as advertising, public relations, newspaper, magazine, film
and broadcasting amongst others.
They can be writers or 'producers' of information; be part of
the creative team in bringing forth new ideas and concepts; and
as educators.
