    SAS is well-equipped with relevant software & hardware teaching facilities to support students’ learning and to provide students with hands-on experiences that cater to the industries needs of today. The facilities include ICT facilities and science laboratory facilities, such as Cisco Network Laboratories, Computer Laboratories for Software Engineering and Computing, Interactive Software Technology Laboratory and Computer Laboratories for Microelectronics. All the labs are equipped with relevant software, projection system and LAN or internet connection.

    SCIENCE LABORATORY


    Chemistry and Biology Laboratory Facilities

    The Chemistry and Biology Division is well-equipped with modern facilities for training students to perform high quality laboratory work.

     


    The chemistry and biology laboratories have the most up-to-date equipment available for students. Special emphasis is given on various advanced instrumental techniques such as high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), FT-IR spectroscopy, graphite furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), gas chromatography mass spectroscopy (GCMS), UV/vis scanning spectroscopy and ion chromatography. Our chemistry laboratories are also equipped with differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) for thermal analysis of chemical materials.

    The biotechnology laboratory houses equipment dedicated for biological analysis at the molecular level. It boasts a real time thermocycler for fluorescent real-time and quantitative polymerase chain reaction detection of nucleic acids. Other equipment includes high speed centrifuges, gel documentation system for DNA analysis, and ELISA for immunological experiments. Other facilities available include a well equipped microbiological preparation area including microbiological  incubators, fermenter, as well as a cell culture lab with laminar flow clean benches, CO2 incubators, inverted phase microscope, fridges, freezers, -80 freezers and preparative equipment including autoclaves, pH meters, etc.

     

    Sport and Exercise Science Facilities

    In order to ensure good academic support to enrich the students’ learning experience, the Sport and Exercise Science laboratory and gym are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. The physical equipment available include Isokinetic Machine for measuring muscular strength; HP Cosmo treadmill with harness for stress, exercise physiological & biomechanical testing; Monark Ergomedic bike/Peak bike, spinning bicycles, Elliptical Cross Trainer for cardiovascular testing; Inbody 230 for body composition analysis; Biopac system for EMG and hand-grip force measurements, etc. The facilities available in the laboratory and gym provide students the opportunity to get practical experiences at physical performing testing, psychological skills trainings, teaching exercise classes and personal training.

     

    The gym facilities provided will enable our students to operate as a practitioner in a commercial and sports performance environments. Students will learn how to design an appropriate training programme that suite for different populations based on the periodisation and training principles. They will also develop a clear understanding of the scientific principles underlying sports performance and exercise, and learn to apply their knowledge in laboratory work, coaching, and projects.

    Meanwhile, the College is well-equipped with sports and recreation facilities such as an Olympic-sized swimming pool, gymnasium, squash courts and a sports complex that comprises multi-purpose halls, rooftop tennis courts, basketball courts, table tennis courts and badminton courts to facilitate the running of this programme.

     

    Microelectronics and Physics Laboratories

    The laboratories are well equipped to facilitate students’ learning and acquisition of  hands-on skills. Besides the computer laboratories which cater for microcontrollers, embedded systems, digital signal processing and IC design, the Microelectronics laboratory are equipped with digital oscilloscopes, mixed signal oscilloscope, function generators, spectrum analyzer for general electronic circuits construction and testing. The PCB laboratory is equipped with PCB prototyping machine and SMD soldering stations for developing PCB boards. The Control Systems laboratory are equipped with data acquisition modules, pneumatic control system, PLC based training systems with SCADA software such as traffic control, motion control and temperature control modules, and robotic arm.
    The Physics laboratory are equipped with optics, thermal and electromagnetic experiment sets such as interferometers, water vapour pressure, heat pump, hot air engine, Biot-Savart law,  electrostatic , hall effect , microwave and  antenna trainer.

     

     

     

    COMPUTER LABORATORY

    Computer laboratories at the Main Campus and five Branch Campuses provide computer facilities for teaching software engineering and computing courses in the FASC, Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business, Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, and Centre of Pre-University Studies. With a total of more than 1160 desktop computers available for students’ use, these computer laboratories enable all Degree, Advanced Diploma, Diploma and Certificates students of these schools to have hands-on training on the various development tools and software incorporated into the programme syllabuses.

     

    The computing facilities available at the Kuala Lumpur Main Campus laboratories include, among others, intranets with a HP Proliant dual-processor Xeon server, IBM X3200 Dual Core Server, Intel Quad-core Xeon 2.00 1333 Server and Acer Altos G320 SCSI Servers running the Microsoft Server 2003 operating system.

     

    The software available at the Main Campus’ computer laboratories include, among others, Oracle Database, Microsoft Visual Studio, Adobe Flash, Rational XDE Developer, Rational Software Architect, Crystal Report, Lotus Notes Domino, Microsoft SQL Server, NetBeans, JCreator LE, Microsoft Expression Web, Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop, SWI-Prolog, Adobe Fireworks, Microsoft Front Page, SPSS (Statistical Package), Microsoft Office, Maple, AccPac (Accounting Package), MYOB, UBS, FACT Accounting and Macro Assembler. 

     

    The software available at the Branch Campuses include Microsoft Visual Studio, Adobe Flash, Netbeans, JCreator LE, Microsoft Expression Web, Adobe Dreamweaver, Microsoft FrontPage, Adobe Fireworks, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Pagemaker, Microsoft Office, UBS and MYOB.

     

     
    CISCO NETWORKING LABORATORY
     

    Tunku Abdul Rahman College is a local Academy of the Cisco Networking Academy Program since 2005.The Cisco Networking Academy Program is designed to teach various levels of students to design, build and maintain computer networks for local, national and global businesses.

     

    The Cisco Networking Laboratories are equipped with four premium bundles of Cisco CCNA networking equipment (consisting of 24 routers and 12 switches), 8 wireless access point, more than 120 high performance PCs, network test equipment, cabling tools and relevant network simulation software. The PCs in the laboratories are networked to two servers with Intel Xeon processors for Internet access.

     

    The laboratories are also equipped with additional 12 routers with advanced features, 6 layer  3 POE switches, 6 layer 2 switches, 3 ASA  firewall with anti-X, 3 ASA firewall with IPS, 6 wireless access points and 6 IP phones. These equipment allow students to carry out advanced networking, VOIP and network security experiments.

     

    These facilities are dedicated for student from various programmes, namely Microelectronics with Computer Communications, Microelectronics with Automatic Control, Information System Engineering, Internet Telecommunications to experience, design and develop computer network configurations. Apart from that, the laboratories also serve as training facilities for the faculty, staff and public.

     

     
    INTERACTIVE SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGY LABORATORY
     

    The Interactive Software Technology Laboratory facilitates the teaching and learning of various aspects of computer games design, programming and technology. The laboratory is used for two main purposes:

    To provide a platform for students to experience, analyse and evaluate different computer game genres and especially to create awareness among them on the important parameters of a game programme.

    To provide the equipment and software required for the development of computer game and other interactive software.

     

    The laboratory is equipped with game consoles such as the Nintendo Wii, Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox as well as a high-end PC, and in the near future, game development kits. Various genre of commercial games such as role playing, strategy, sports and simulation games are used in teaching the games technology programmes.

     

     
    Computer Laboratories for Microelectronics
     
    Five computer laboratories with 130 high performance Pentium-based PCs are dedicated for Microelectronics students to support circuits and systems design and development (D&D). These PCs are interfaced with Embedded Systems peripherals, Altera Nios FPGA board, Altera DE1 & DE2 board, Xilinx Spartan FPGA board, advanced Lyrtech DSP FPGA board, Microchip PIC, Keil evaluation boards (ARM9) and Intel-based microcontroller development boards for embedded systems design and digital systems design. To aid students’ design and development work, the PCs are also installed with relevant EDA design tools such as Quartus-II, Electronics Workbench: Multisim, UltiBoard, Tanner Tools Layout design suite, Mentor Graphics, Keil Realview Real-Time Library, assembler and cross-assembler for different micropcessors / microcontrollers and other high level language development suite.
     
    The laboratories also are equipped with Matlab with simulink and various toolboxes such as digital processing, communication, RF, control, fuzzy logic, neutral network toolboxes, simulink, real-time workshop, etc.
     
    Operating systems installed in the laboratories include Microsoft Window 2003 Advanced Server, Microsoft Window NT, Microsoft Window XP professional, Microsoft Window CE embedded and Microsoft Window XP embedded.
