Bachelor of Science in Architecture (Honours)

Architecture is a social art as well as an artful science which involves erecting buildings, structures and outdoor spaces to allow the man-madecomponents to fit in harmony with the environment while promoting health and well-being. An architect’s design could extend from simple individual houses, work places to communal and urban living spaces of the society. The programme aims to equip students with sound knowledge and skills in architectural design processes and technological aspects such as services integration in their design projects; application of building by-laws together with sustainability issues into designed buildings. It also includes study of architectural history and cultural practices which will enhance their awareness and sensitivities needed for holistic architectural education.

Bachelor of Science in Architecture (Honours) (3 Years)

Career Prospects:
Upon completion of the programme, the Part I graduates can be employed as assistant architects, both for design activities and as executive and/or as managerial level personnel in architectural practices which include, but not limited to, production of conceptual and detail designs, construction drawings, contract administration as well as project implementation in the construction industry. They will be able to assist professional architects to run their consulting firms. This Part I degree will provide an effective pathway for further studies in architecture leading to a Part II professional degree in architecture which will enable them to be professional architects with their own consulting firms upon the passing of the Part III Professional Examination after a minimum of two years working with a registered architect’s firm.

This programme is designed to produce and develop graduates:

  1. with requisite knowledge and skills in design work, building technological practices, architectural drafting, culminating in small projects design, preparation of presentation and working drawings required for project realisation.
  2. who are creative and equipped with technical, interpersonal and communications skills needed in an interdisciplinary project team inherent within the architectural and constructional environment.
  3. who possess strong professional ethical values and positive attitude expected of the architectural profession particularly that of independence of thought and decision making.
  4. with a sound exposure to the first degree architectural studies that forms the foundation for professional degree in architecture.

Upon completion of the programme, the graduates should be able to:

  1. Relate design skills, technical/graphical communication and building technology concepts and principles to achieve the objectives and goals of design and construction organisations.
  2. Apply both manual and digital drawing skills and other media in the preparation of design work,preparation of presentation and working drawings needed for project realization.
  3. Apply the values of sustainability, art and culture within the environment and society, thereby relating to the diverse ethnicity of Malaysia.
  4. Practise strong professional ethical values in their work in line with principles and practices pertinent to management of design processes, site work and marketing operations.
  5. Display strong team spirit with good communication, negotiation, leadership qualities and skills in the course of professional and semi-professional duties.
  6. Apply technological knowledge, analytical and critical thinking skills to define and develop integrated design solutions creatively.
  7. Use information resources to acquire new processes and skills to inculcate life-long learning and pursue a higher level of study for career development.
  8. Demonstrate good management and entrepreneurship skills through an understanding of contractual procedures in order to assist in managing an architectural practice and marketing operations.
