TAR UC Students Achieve Impressive A and AS Level Results

A Level AS Level students in the Centre for Pre-University Studies (‘CPUS’) of TAR UC continued the tradition of excellence with the latest batch from the November 2017 examinations scoring impressive results. In the recent CPUS A Level and AS Level High Achievers Certificate Presentation Ceremony held on 14 March 2018, the high achievers were feted and Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, President of TAR UC was present to give out the certificates and trophies to them.

For the November 2017 examination series, TAR UC recorded a pass percentage of 89%, with 36.6% of the cohort achieving excellent results of at least AAB and above. The ceremony also took note that TAR UC’s performance is much better than the world’s performance for all the Arts subjects and most of the Science subjects. Another point to highlight is the performance of the students based on individual subjects where the batch recorded impressive pass percentage for Computer Science at 100%, Physics at 95%, Chemistry at 89%, Mathematics at 88%, Further Mathematics and Economics at 85% respectively and Biology at 84%.

Tan Yong Shen who scored 4’A*’s was named as the Best Overall Performance in Cambridge International A Level Science and received the CPUS Top Achievement Cup at the ceremony. As for the Best Overall Performance in Cambridge International A Level Arts, the title went to Tan Jia Xin who scored 2’A*’s 2’A’s 1’B’. As for the AS Level, Chang Wei Jin was named as Best Overall Performance in Cambridge AS Level Examination Science and Best Performer in AS Level with a result of 5’a’s while Asaad Ahmed Bin Ghulam Nabi Athar was the Best Overall Performance in Cambridge AS Level Examination Arts who scored 3’a’s 1’b’.

Datuk Dr Tan in his opening speech clearly defined the commitment of CPUS and TAR UC as a whole towards the holistic development of TAR UC students. “The stellar results we see today are testaments of our commitment to provide our students with an excellent and holistic education. At TAR UC, we emphasise academic excellence, but at the same time we equally emphasise development of well-rounded students who are ready to undertake the challenges of higher education and also life. Which is why the tagline of CPUS is ‘Preparing you for university and beyond’. To this end, students are presented with a wide array of opportunities on campus including clubs, societies, community service, and other activities to discover their potential and build their character,” he said.

TAR UC President also highlighted that the A Level qualifications is the passport to the best universities around the world and this also includes pursuing tertiary education in TAR UC where qualified A Level high achievers are provided with scholarships to study in TAR UC.

Tan Yong Shen in his valedictorian speech expressed his gratitude to TAR UC for providing him the opportunity to complete his A Level. “I would like to thank TAR UC for providing a conducive environment for me to study as well as enhance my social life. My friends and I have also benefitted from the merit scholarships offered by TAR UC as well as the many fully equipped facilities and comprehensive resources around campus which are not only of great convenience but have enhanced our vibrant student lifestyle. On that of that, for a fee that is a much more affordable, we are still provided with high quality education. Therefore, we will always be proud to be TARCians,” he said.
