It was indeed a moment of pride for all A Level and AS Level high achievers in the morning of 16 March 2017 as they were given due recognition for their excellent achievement in the A Level/AS Level examination in a certificate and trophy presentation ceremony held at TAR UC Main Hall. A total of 60 A Level and 14 AS Level students were feted at the ceremony which was witnessed by the parents, lecturers, staff as well as Senior Officials of TAR UC.

Gracing the ceremony was Mr Ng Kim Huat, Cambridge International Examinations (‘CIE’) Country Director, Malaysia, who was warmly welcomed by Ms Kho Sok Kee and Assoc Prof Say Sok Kwan, Vice Presidents of TAR UC.

Ms Kho, in her speech, said, “This year is a very special year for the A Level programme at TAR UC as the programme is currently in its 30th year. With 30 years’ worth of experience under our belt, our A Level programme has matured and grown from its humble beginnings in 1987 with only 49 students, to becoming one of the largest and most reputable Cambridge A Level centres in Malaysia. Several hundred thousand students sit for the Cambridge examinations all over the world every year but our students have regularly proven themselves to be on par with the best students in the world and in the country, by winning awards in the prestigious Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards.”

The results for the latest October/November 2016 examination session was no less exceptional with an impressive pass percentage of 89.4% for A Level. From this cohort, about 30% of the students scored excellent results of AAB and above. From a total of 60 high achievers, 25 scored at least 4 ‘A*’s or 4 ‘A’s, and 42 of them scored at least 3 ‘A*’s or 3 ‘A’s. In terms of individual subject performances, the October/November 2016 A Level examination recorded outstanding pass percentages for Physics at 91%, Biology at 94%, Chemistry at 92% and Mathematics at 90%. Equally impressive is the AS Level pass percentage, which is 95.9%. From this cohort of students, about 30% managed to achieve excellent results of 2‘a’s 1 ‘b’ and above.

Yap Kwan Ken, who also took home the CPUS Top Achievement Cup, commended TAR UC for its affordable education and well-equipped library. “The tuition fees here are affordable. Besides that, the library here is fully-equipped with high-speed wifi and comprehensive resources for your study needs. For instance, you can find a good selection of books on various Mathematics topics here,” said the high achiever who also emerged Top in the World for Mathematics.

Diong Tze Li, on the other hand, attributed part of her success to her lecturers. “The lecturers here are indeed very friendly. I could feel their eagerness to assist us whenever we had problems. There were certainly no barriers in communicating with them,” she said.
