TAR University College Gathers International Experts for the TARC International Conference on Learning and Teaching 2013

 

TAR University College organised the TARC International Conference on Learning and Teaching 2013 on 21 October 2013 at the Bangunan Tun Tan Siew Sin, KL Main Campus. Its aim is to continuously transform and enhance learning and teaching via sharing, exchanging and discussing experience, knowledge and expertise among the experts and educationists. Themed ‘Innovation and Transformation in Learning and Teaching’, the 3rd International Conference was focusing on promoting collaborations, discussion and the sharing of knowledge, experience and expertise on innovative learning, teaching and assessment methodologies and strategies, digital learning and the teaching eco–system, as well as the effects of globalisation on institutional policies and the professional development of educators.

The Conference received strong support from 12 local and international institutions of higher learning in the organising of the event, namely Asia e University (Malaysia), Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Malaysia), Birmingham City University (United Kingdom), Coventry University (United Kingdom), Edinburgh Napier University (United Kingdom), Liverpool John Moores University (United Kingdom), University College Birmingham (United Kingdom), Teesside University (United Kingdom), Sheffield Hallam University (United Kingdom), Queensland University of Technology (Australia), University of South Australia and Lincoln University (New Zealand). Being an international conference, the event had brought together a diverse panel of experts who were from Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Hong Kong, India, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand to present their keynote addresses and research papers.

Mr Lee Hwee Chuin, the Chairman of the Organising Committee of the International Conference, highlighted that the Conference provided an avenue for intellectual discourse among conference presenters and participants from Malaysia and abroad with the hope to generate new ideas and facilitate transfer of knowledge and expertise that will benefit educators as well as institutions of higher learning in discharging their role effectively.

With the rapid technological advancement, the approach to learning and teaching has been reformed in order to achieve its intended purposes. Underscoring this point, Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, the President of TAR University College in his address during the opening ceremony, said:  “The role of this International Conference on Learning and Teaching is gaining more importance to us as an institution of higher learning to share our experience as well as learn from other institutions in facing the issues relating to learning and teaching in this modern age in order to ensure that we fulfill not only the role of knowledge provider but more importantly as a catalyst that inspires students towards knowledge creation and beyond”.
