Clara Success Story on Professional Ethics on Skin Treatments and Aesthetic Care

TAR University College had the great honor of welcoming a prominent and successful entrepreneur in the Malaysian beauty industry, Prof. Datin Dr. Clara L. Chee to share her knowledge on professional ethics in the beauty industry. The talk was organized by Centre for Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) on 9 October 2015 entitled “Clara Success Story on Professional Ethics on Skin Treatments and Aesthetic Care”.

Prof. Datin Dr. Clara is one of the most recognizable entrepreneurs in Malaysia. She entered the beauty industry as a beauty therapist where she first discovered her passion in the aesthetic profession. Seeing the potential in the beauty industry, she started her own beauty business in 1977. Her consummate interest in the beauty industry has led her to study cosmetics science and technology and she was conferred the Honorary Doctorate (PhD) title from the Pacific Western University, USA, in 1996. Prof. Datin Dr. Clara is currently the Chairman of Clara International Beauty Group and the Director of Clara Beauty Products Ltd. in Shenyang, China.

During the talk, Prof. Datin Dr. Clara shared that her great success was due to her unrelenting pursuit of formulating effective and safe products, as well as to set the standards for the beauty business ethics in Malaysia. During the formative years of her business, she encountered many difficulties including the lack of raw materials and the lack of governmental support for local businesses.

She informed the audience that in order to expand the business, it was important to explore new market opportunities or create a new one if there was none. With this in mind, Clara International Beauty Group became the first beauty company in the world to produce skin care products specifically for Asian skins.

Prof. Datin Dr. Clara further stressed that in order to globalize a business, setting and adhering to the code of conduct in ethics were paramount to instill client confidence and good reputation of the company. According to Prof. Datin Dr. Clara, in a competitive industry where customers demand miracle products, the amount of products and treatments that do not perform as promised was alarmingly huge. As such, the importance of reliable and ethical business practices was crucial.

Before ending the talk, Prof. Datin Dr. Clara reiterated that to have a sense of determination and zest to succeed, resilience and building positive relationships are important.

After the talk, participants were given the opportunity to receive a free session of skin analysis consultation by Clara beauty consultants.
