WGBA1033 - BASIC PHYSICS FOR TECHNICAL DISCIPLINES (KL004)

Course Objective
This course is designed to:
- Enable TVET students to access TAR UMT Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FOET) programmes.
- Provide a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental principles of physics.
- Bridge the gap between secondary education and university-level science studies.
- Cover key topics such as force and motion, pressure, heat, electricity, and electromagnetism.
- Develop students’ strong foundation in both theoretical concepts and practical problem-solving skills.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) Identify fundamental physics concepts related to engineering technology.
2) Interpret fundamental physics problems.
3) Explain physics concepts through experiment.

Course Synopsis
- Duration: 28 hours lecture, 14 hours tutorial, 14 hours (7 weeks)
- Mode of Learning: Physical class at TAR UMT KL Campus

This course covers the key topics in Basic Physics clearly and practically, including:
- Chapter 1: Physical Quantities and Measurements — Learn about types of quantities, vectors, scalars, and how measurements are done.
- Chapter 2: Forces and Motion (Part A) — Study motion, inertia, and how forces act and balance.
- Chapter 2: Forces and Motion (Part B) — Understand momentum, impulse, work, energy, power, and elasticity.
- Chapter 3: Pressure — Explore pressure in liquids, gases, and atmosphere, plus Pascal’s, Archimedes’, and Bernoulli’s principles.
- Chapter 4: Heat — Learn about thermal equilibrium, specific heat, latent heat, and gas laws.
- Chapter 5: Electricity — Discover electric fields, current, voltage, resistors, electromotive force, and electrical energy.
- Chapter 6: Electromagnetism — Study magnetic effects of current, forces in magnetic fields, induction, and transformers.
