This course is designed to explore possible reasons for the lack of student engagement in online learning and introduce methods to encourage student engagement in the online classroom via selected e-learning platforms such as Google Classroom, Google Meet, Loom etc.

This is a non-technical workshop that is created for participants to share their online teaching and learning experience, as well as to be exposed to the possibilities of
student engagement activities that can be created from the platforms mentioned above.

  Trainer

Melissa Lee obtained her Bachelor and Master in Education (Teaching of English as Second Language, TESL) from University of Malaya. She has over 18 years of experience teaching English and Public Speaking courses to learners from various backgrounds and of different areas of specialisation since joining TAR University of Management and Technology in 2002. 

Her areas of interest include effective communication and presentation, active learning methodology and maintaining teacher-student motivation in the classroom. She has also co-authored two reference texts namely English for Engineering (2013) and Essentials of Professional Communication: Science and Engineering (2018). 

She is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Department of English Studies in the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities at TAR UMT. Ms Lee is a regular trainer for English Enhancement Programmes for both local and foreign participants, as well as a facilitator for in-house Teacher Development Workshops in TAR UMT and other institutions of higher learning such as Limkokwing University, First City University College and YTL International College of Hotel Management.
