Mastering the Basics of Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) Using SmartPLS 4

Partial Least Squares (PLS) is another method for assessing causal models besides covariance-based method used in AMOS. It is a composite-based approach to Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) which:

- allows researchers to estimate complex models with many constructs and indicator variables
- aims at maximizing the explained variance of dependent constructs in the path model
- allows the estimation of reflective and formative constructs
- offers much flexibility in terms of data requirement

OBJECTIVES
This workshop is designed to familiarize participants with the basics of using PLS-SEM as a multivariate analysis method in their research. This workshop aims to provide:

- an introduction to PLS-SEM approach
- the nature of causal modeling
- basic PLS-SEM Modelling
- evaluation of measurement results
- publication experience

CONTENTS
- Introduction to SEM
- Usage of SEM
- Various methodological issues
- Basics of SEM – formative versus reflective measurement
- Modelling using PLS
- Assessment of measurement model
- Assessment of structural model

Dr. Sia Mal Kong is an Associate Professor at the Department of Quantity Surveying in the Faculty of Built Environment,TAR UC. Graduated with a honours degree in civil engineering from Universiti Malaya in 1985, he has at least 7 years ofindustrial experience. He also has a diploma in education from Universiti Malaya, teaching English in a secondary school in Tumpat, Kelantan; and served in Pusat Pengajian Kejuruteraan Awam, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Tronoh Branch, Perak before. He joined TARC in May 2003, and has served in this higher education institution since then. His PhD, obtained in 2010, was on ISO 9001 using AMOS for SEM. His most notable article was published in a special issue of the TQM Journal. His latest article on PLS-SEM was recently published in Sustainability from MDPI.
