ISO 14001:2015 specifies the requirements for an environmental management system that an organisation can use to enhance its environmental performance, including using
effective strategies and practices designed to eliminate negative consequences while increasing productivity.
ISO 14001 is intended for an organisation aiming to manage its environmental responsibilities. It enables an organisation to improve environmental performance, reduce unnecessary costs, and increase productivity.
ISO 14001 is expected to focus more on the environmental aspects of value chains. It thus follows the trend of focusing more intensely on the environmental effects of not only the activities in the company but also in the upstream processes (e.g. raw materials, logistics chains) as well as in the life cycle of products and services.
