Professional & Certification Programmes

WGBA1043 - BASIC MATHEMATICS FOR TECHNICAL DISCIPLINES (KL005)

Course Objective
This course is designed to:
- Enable TVET students to access TAR UMT Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FOET) programmes.
- Develop students’ proficiency in Mathematics and prepare them to meet the entry requirements for bachelor’s programmes.
- Build a strong foundation in core mathematical concepts from high school.
- Enhance students’ problem-solving and analytical skills in applying these concepts.
- Prepare students for advanced mathematics subjects they will encounter in their degree studies.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) Understand and apply fundamental mathematical concepts such as algebra, functions, and trigonometry to solve basic problems.
2) Learn the steps of statistical analysis, probability, and matrix operations to interpret data and solve everyday mathematical tasks.

Course Synopsis
- Duration: 28 hours lecture, 28 hours tutorial (7 weeks)
- Mode of Learning: Physical class at TAR UMT KL Campus

This course covers the key topics in Basic Physics clearly and practically, including:
- Algebra — Learn number bases, solve linear equations, factorize expressions, and solve quadratic equations.
- Functions — Understand relations, types of functions (linear, quadratic, exponential), and how to graph them.
- Trigonometry — Work with angles in degrees and radians, use sine, cosine, tangent, draw their graphs, and apply basic identities.
- Statistics — Organize data into class intervals, show data with graphs (histogram, bar, pie, polygon), and find mean, median, and mode.
- Probability — Learn sample space, events, and calculate the probability of events and their complements.
- Matrix Algebra — Study matrices, equal matrices, and perform addition, subtraction, scalar multiplication, and multiplication of two matrices.
