The objective of the course is to develop students’ English Language proficiency and prepare them to cope with teaching and learning environment at tertiary level which is in English and the same time to meet the entry requirement for our diploma courses. Classes will be conducted through tutorial groups with the use of course- manual, books, CDs, videotapes and films.

On completion of the unit, students should be able to:

• write grammatically correct sentences.
• read and answer questions based on the text.
• write well developed and cohesive essays.
• apply the techniques of writing summaries.
• identify and correct grammatical, syntax and vocabulary errors.
