Programme Overview:

The Doctor of Philosophy (Built Environment) produces professionals equipped with advanced and updated knowledge and new development, high order thinking skills, research skills and soft skills specialised in the field of built environment or related discipline.

Full time (Malaysian & International students) - 3 years

Part time (Malaysian students ONLY) - 4 years

  • Experts or specialists in Built Environment section e.g. green and sustainable technology, contracts management, strategic procurement, construction innovation, habitat and house price, urban microclimate simulation, virtual reality simulation in building desgin, conservation of historic architecture sites

Minimum Entry Requirements

  • A Master's Degree (MQF, Level 7) in Civil / Materials Engineering, Engineering Technology, Architecture, Built Environment, or other related field which is accepted by the Senate of TAR UMT; OR
  • Other qualifications equivalent to a Master's Degree (MQF, Level 7) in Civil / Materials Engineering, Engineering Technology, Architecture, Built Environment, or other related field that are accepted by the Senate of TAR UMT and recognised by the Government of Malaysia
Candidates without a related qualification or working experience in Civil / Materials Engineering, Engineering Technology, Architecture, Built Environment, or other related field, must undergo approriate prerequisite courses determined by the Senate of TAR UMT.

 

A Bachelor's degree with the following conditions:

  • A bachelor's degree in the field or related fields with first-class (CGPA of 3.67 or higher) or its equivalent from an academic or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme;
  • Undergo internal assessment; and
  • any other requirements set by the Senate of TAR UMT

Bachelor's degree candidates who are registered for master's degree programmes may apply to convert to the doctoral degree programmes subjected to the following conditions:

  • within 1 year for full time and within 2 years for part-time candidates;
  • having shown competency and capability in conducting research at doctoral level through rigorous internal evaluation by TAR UMT; and
  • approval by the Senate of TAR UMT

English Language Requirements

Malaysian Students

  • MUET Band 3.5 or IELTS Band 5.0 or CEFR High B1 or TOEFL iBT 40 or equivalent; OR
  • Exemption of English Language requirement if medium of instruction during Master studies was in English

International Students

  • IELTS Band 5.0 or CEFR High B1 or TOEFL iBT 40 or equivalent; OR
  • Exemption of English Language requirement if medium of instruction during Master studies was in English
