Abstract Submission

We would like to invite you to submit ABSTRACT for ‘the 3rd FIEP Asian Conference on Physical Education and Sport’ which will take place on 1-3 June 2018 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Acceptance: After a double-blind peer review, Abstract will be accepted (oral/poster) or rejected. The review by the scientific committee based on the originality/novelty, significance of research findings and relevance to the main themes and sub-themes will be assigned to appropriate sessions either for oral or poster presentations. Participants should indicate their preference of presentation type (oral or poster).

Abstract Format: All abstracts must be written in English using Microsoft Office Word with the following format:

  • Title of paper in Times New Roman 13 point, Bold Title Case (First Letter of Each Main Word Capitalized)
  • Author(s) name(s) [initials followed by family name(s)] in Times New Roman 10 point
  • Affiliation(s) and full address(es) in Times New Roman 10 point
  • Presenting author (with email address) clearly indicated with an asterisk symbol
  • Content should be one paragraph between 200-300 words in Times New Roman 10 point. It should include: Purpose/Objective of study, Methods (Participants, Instrumentation, Procedure), Main results and Conclusion.
  • Abstract should not contain abbreviations and/or references.
  • Keywords should be between 4-6 words and should be clearly stated in italic at the bottom of the abstract.

Augmentation: Selected Abstract and their author/s will be invited to extend their work into a Full Paper (maximum 8 pages). Selected papers will be published in Journal of Physical Education and Sport (JPES) (SCOPUS indexed), and subjected to a publication fee of RM450.

Presentation: Accepted abstracts are given either a 25-minute slot for an oral presentation or assigned to present at a Poster Session. Authors which have been selected for an oral presentation may however opt for a Poster Session instead.

Evaluation of the Implementation of Sport Science Programme in Malaysian Secondary Schools

             This study evaluated a new sport science curriculum in Malaysian secondary schools. Four implementation dimensions (‘teaching ability’, ‘administration of sport science programme’, ‘teaching duty allocation’ and ‘non-human factors’) were examined. 135 schools and 94 teachers were surveyed. 81% teachers were male and 85% were under 40. About half of the respondents were trained in sport science and had 1-2 years teaching experience. Over 90% of teachers perceived they have knowledge to teach and can manage students. However, 80% felt they need more exposure and training. Male teachers were better than female teachers in managing students and conducting activities/experiments. Experienced teachers were better in conducting activities and experiments. Teachers majoring in sport science were more knowledgeable while PE majors found teaching sport science challenging. Most teachers perceived that teaching facilities, financial allocation and reference resources were inadequate. Majority of the administrators consulted teachers before assigning teaching load but failed to observe teaching. This research provides invaluable feedbacks on the implementation of the programme.
