Bachelor of Construction Management and Economics (Honours)

This is a multi-discipline programme designed to provide essential academic base in the discipline of construction management, quality surveying and property development needed in the construction industry. This programme focuses on planning, co-ordination and control of the construction project from inception till completion stage; managing financial issues of the project; managing the production of design, tender, contract and construction drawing including tender and contract documents; managing the selection of appropriate procurement system, contractual arrangement and tendering method which satisfies the client’s needs in term of time, cost, quality and legal aspects; and managing the contractual issues based on general contract principles of Building Contract as well as general legal principles of Contract Law, Sale of Goods Act and Law of Tort.

Career Prospects:
Upon completion of the programme, graduates can be employed as supervisory, executive and/or managerial levels personnel in managing the real property development projects from inception to post construction stages in construction and/or property development firms.

The Bachelor of Construction Management and Economics (Honours) programme has the following four Programme Educational Objectives, to be achieved 3 to 5 years upon completion of the programme:

Upon completion of the programme, the graduates should be able to:

  1. Apply essential knowledge in construction technology, construction economics, management, health & safety, legal and environmental aspects acquired into practice. (knowledge)
  2. Retrieve and use data from surveying and laboratory equipment and utilise computer software for construction, planning, scheduling, estimating and tendering purposes. (practical skills)
  3. Critically analyse and use innovative and scientific approach to solve problems encountered during construction process or for continuous improvements. (thinking and scientific skills)
  4. Communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms, with and without the use of ICT tools in construction projects. (communication skills)
