Industry Collaboration
TAR UMT and Hotayi Electronic (M) Sdn Bhd (‘HOTAYI’) forged a collaboration that led to the Memorandum of Agreement (‘MoA’) signing ceremony which was held on 30 March 2018. The ceremony was attended by Datuk Ng Peng Hay, Chairman of KOJADI who was the Guest-of-Honour, Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, President of TAR UMT, Dato’ Lee Hung Lung, Chief Executive Officer of HOTAYI and Ms Goh Guek Eng, Managing Director of HOTAYI .
The collaboration under the theme “Industry Education Collaboration: For a Better Engineering Education Tomorrow” will bring TAR UMT and HOTAYI together in carrying out 6 industry-oriented projects which will be developed by final year students from the Faculty of Engineering (‘FOEN’) and Faculty of Computing and Information Technology (‘FOCS’) as their final year project. The 6 industry-oriented projects are the Automated Production Simulation, Machine and Process Data Analytics using Artificial Intelligence, Machine and Process Data Analytics, Image Processing Automations, Product Data Analytics and Parts Supply Chain Automation.
By incorporating such industry-oriented projects in TAR UMT engineering and IT programmes, TAR UMT provides real life industry-relevant experience to the FOEN and FOCS students so that they are ready for work once graduated. Such partnership with the industry also enables TAR UMT to close the gap between the industry and academia especially in the age of Industry 4.0.

Prototype development
The academic-industry collaboration between Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) and SMC Automation (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. was formalized through the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on 27 July 2022. Both parties would collaborate and share knowledge, research initiatives, industry best practices and expertise in order to form a win-win and long-term partnership. This collaboration would be able to bridge the gap between the academic and industry which could bring many benefits to the community, universities, and industries.
The strategic cooperation focuses on talent development, teaching and learning as well as engineering and technological innovation. Among the initiatives that could be implemented by both parties include an internship programme, graduates employment opportunities, industrial actuators, automation and Industry 4.0 collaboration projects and industry talks. The TARUC-SMC Automation collaboration may pave the way for future collaboration and research into the engineering and technological advancement of industrial actuators and automation to support the global Sustainable Development Goals.
