Chew Hew Wen

Bachelor of Hospitality Management (Honours), Department of Hospitality Management, TAR UC

Having studied in both TAR UC and IMI Switzerland has allowed me to have opportunities to meet new people and experience new things. There are life-long friends whom I made during my studies; most of them are from different countries such as Indonesia and Thailand. The six months study in Switzerland gave me an opportunity to experience an internship abroad. Many of my friends chose to do their internship in Switzerland. For me, I went to the US to do my internship. From adapting to new environments and having to meet new people, this exposure allows students to experience hospitality in different working cultures and environments which will undoubtedly help me be a better hospitality professional in the future. Although working in a new environment and culture was a challenge, it allowed me to understand my job scope more and work better with other employees. The team I met in Miami was talented and friendly. In fact, 90 percent of employees were foreigners from countries such as Argentina, Venezuela and Ukraine. I enjoyed working with them as everyday I could learn new knowledge as a front desk agent. The courses that were taught helped prepare me for the hands-on experience in the hotel. In addition, working at one of the Marriott properties helps me to understand Marriott’s work culture which may be helpful in future endeavors.

My time in TAR UC has been fun-filled! The lecturers are experienced, passionate and inspiring. They are always ready to help and provide us the support we need. I would not have excelled in this course without their help. Despite excellent lecturers, exciting campus life is also guaranteed here with the diverse options of societies and well-equipped facilities. In other words, studying in TAR UC is one of the most memorable experiences I’ve ever had!

Sales Coordinator at SWAG Consultancy Sdn Bhd
Bachelor of Hospitality Management (Honours), Department of Hospitality Management, TAR UC

I had a lot of fun and sweet memories studying in TARUC because it gives me and my friends the unique experiences and challenges. Hospitality Management is a very interesting programme as it provides a lot of practical classes, which are my favorite. This is where we get to stay out of the class and away from theory. My friends and I always had fun during practical class because this is where we get to use our creativity to play around with the tools provided by TARUC especially classes such as kitchen and baking and pastry. In my early times in TARUC, I was a very shy student and will never expect that I will be involved in such big competition. But despite my personality, Ms Martina Chua Swee Lin still requested me to join this competition, Worldskill Belia 2018 under the category of restaurant service. Joining this competition gave me a big sense of accomplishment and made me feel like I’ve actually done something in my life. And joining this competition will be the highlight in the four years of studying in TARUC. So I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ms Martina Chua Swee Lin, Encik Suhaimi Bin Abdullah not just for choosing me, but also the time, the money they have spent on us, to ensure that we are always full before and after the competition, the training they have provided and the overtime they did. I would like to thank to the people involved as well, the driver and kakak Cik Azhani Binti Kamaruzaman who prepared my equipment. And I’m glad that I’ve gone through the first round thanks to my mentor’s effort. Having the knowledge and skills that I have learned throughout the training actually help me create a career path and provide me the opportunity to work in a wine company.

Bachelor of Hospitality Management (Honours), Department of Hospitality Management, TAR UC

My name is Xiu Qing and I have learnt a lot in the 3 years I have been here, from content-related knowledge to self-discovery and personal growth. The interesting thing about my time in college is that the focus is not just on the subjects taught or the knowledge learnt, but also on understanding the unlimited potential that one has. A huge shout-out to all the lecturers who have given tremendous effort in sharing their expertise and experience in their unique ways, thus making the learning process interesting and fun. “This is your second home”, a slogan that TARUC has always preached, is something that I couldn’t agree more. The kindness and care that I feel throughout the years I am in this campus is something I will cherish. Thank you TARUC for creating a high standard yet loving environment for us students to learn, study and enjoy. “The Possibilities are Endless”. Who knew that I would be given the chance to take part in the Worldskill Malaysia 2019 WSMB Cooking category. A huge thank you to Chef Azaludin Bin Tajudin, Kak Asidah Binti Abdullah Hassan, Chef Encik Asrul @ Mohd Asrul Bin Saari , Chef Nur Liana Binti Ahmad, Ms Martina Chua Swee Lin, and Chef Encik Muhammad Adib Bin Mohamed Ramly for guiding and supporting me throughout the training.
