Living expenses depends on the needs and lifestyle of students. An estimated cost of accommodation, food, books, clothes and other expenses is approximately MYR1,200 to MYR2,700 per month (USD300-USD680) for a student.
When you are at the University, your spending patterns may be different from what it has been previously at your home country. It can be difficult to estimate how much you are likely to spend as a student until you have settled down for a period of time. As such, it is important to ensure that you have sufficient finance to support both your living expenses and tuition fees throughout the duration of studies.
About MYR220 per month for a twin-sharing room with basic furniture at the TAR UMT Hostel. Electricity and water charges are inclusive.
MYR400 - MYR1600 per month is the range of rental charges for a basic room up to a whole apartment unit. Rentals vary according to the type of accommodation, location and facilities provided in the unit (e.g. air-conditioning, washing machine, fridge, etc.). The various types of accommodation include studio apartment, condominium with recreational facilities, houses, etc. Electricity, water, other utilities and internet bills are usually not included in the rental charges.
MYR450 - MYR800 per month. The cost will depend on the type of food and food outlets/stalls/restaurants.
There are four (4) cafeteria located on Campus serving a variety of Chinese, Malay (Halal), Indian and Western cuisine. The prices range from MYR3.00 per meal to MYR10.00. There are many cafes, food courts, restaurants and coffee shops located within the vicinity of the Campus serving a wide range of cuisines.
MYR100 - MYR500 per semester. The cost includes expenses for buying books and stationery, printing, photocopying, etc. It may vary according to your programme of study.
MYR 100 - MYR200 per month depending on the lifestyle of students. This estimated amount includes expenses for personal items, clothing, movies, entertainment, telecommunication charges, laundry, etc. There are numerous shopping malls, supermarkets and grocery outlets in the vicinity of the Campus.
The Kuala Lumpur Main Campus maintains a regular bus service which ferry students between the Campus and nearby residential areas. The University buses also stop by one of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) station (Wangsa Maju Station). Click here for more information on transportation services provided by RapidKL.
TAR UMT is easily accessible by public transport, i.e. LRT, buses and taxis. Transportation expenses may vary according to the lifestyle of a student, e.g. visits, sightseeing, shopping, etc. A budget of MYR100 per month may be required if there are frequent trips to and out of City Centre.
