Below is a list of common questions frequently asked by our users:

Do I need to make a Library membership card?
No. Your Student/Staff ID card is also your Library membership card.

What should I do if I lose my ID card?
You must report to the Reference Assistant at Service Counter, Level G, Main Library immediately to deactivate your library account. Alternatively, you may deactivate your library account online by logging in to Library InfoWeb. The steps are as follows:

Step 1: Click on “Login” tab on the top menu bar.    
   
Step 2: Enter your 'ID Barcode No. / IC No.' and password.
   
Step 3: Click on "My Account" tab on the top menu bar.
   
Step 4: Click on "I lost my card" button.

How do I gain entry to the Postgraduate Library? What is the passcode?
Postgraduate and EDP students as well as full-time lecturers can gain entry to the Postgraduate Library using their own student/staff ID card and passcode (last six digits of MyKad/Passport number).

Can alumni borrow library books?
Yes. Alumni (with Alumni Access card) can borrow library books, provided they have paid an annual library fee of RM50.00 and RM600.00 deposit for 2 books.
What is a Call Number?
A Call Number is a unique number (usually numbers and letters) that indicate an item’s shelving location in the library.
Does iDiscover replace Library InfoWeb?
No. iDiscover is a starting point for research and does not replace the Library InfoWeb. If you are having difficulties in finding a particular book in iDiscover, please try looking it up in Library InfoWeb instead.

How do I conduct a specific search using iDiscover?

To conduct a more specific search such as a particular book chapter or journal article, use Advanced Search.


Does iDiscover index the content from all the Library-subscribed online resources?

iDiscover does NOT index the content from online databases such as LawNet & Passport and also e-journals which requires username and password for access. Users need to search these resources separately.

What is Library InfoWeb?
Library InfoWeb is a web-based OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue). To access Library InfoWeb, go to: https://infoweb.tarc.edu.my/

Do I need a password to search Library InfoWeb?
No password is required to search Library InfoWeb.

How do I login to Library InfoWeb?
You need to enter your 'ID Barcode No. / IC No.' and password. You do not need to include the hyphens in your IC number.

How do I obtain the password to login to Library InfoWeb?
You can request your password online by clicking on the "Request/ Reset password" link. The new password will be sent to your TAR UMT Gmail.

What can I do with Library InfoWeb password?
You can use the Library InfoWeb password to:
  • check details of your library record.
  • renew Open Shelf books and/or Restricted Loan materials online.
  • place requests on checked-out (borrowed) Open Shelf books and/or Restricted Loan materials.
  • create and save book lists.
  • save a search for subsequent login to Library InfoWeb.
  • deactivate library account due to loss of ID card.

What can I do if I have forgotten the Library InfoWeb password?
You can reset your password by clicking on the "Request/ Reset password" link. A new password will be sent to your TAR UMT Gmail.

Can I access Library InfoWeb from home or other off-campus locations?
Yes. Library InfoWeb is accessible at anytime, anywhere over the web.
How do I borrow item from the Restricted Loan Collection?
You have to present your ID card and the call number of the item that you wish to borrow to the library staff at Service Counter, Level G, Main Library.

How do I borrow/return library books or Restricted Loan materials?
You can approach the library staff at the Service Counter, Level G for the borrowing/returning of Open Shelf and/or Red Spot book(s) or Restricted Loan material(s). 

How do I obtain a book that is not available in the Postgraduate Library or Main Library?
If a book is not held in the Postgraduate Library or Main Library’s collection, you can submit a request via interlibrary loan (ILL) service / document delivery service (DDS).

How do I renew items online?
You can renew borrowed Open Shelf books and/or Restricted Loan materials online by logging in to Library InfoWeb, provided:
  1. The item(s) is (are) not overdue;
  2. You have no overdue item or unpaid fines in your Library InfoWeb account;
  3. The item(s) has(have) not been reserved by another user or recalled by the Library Management prior to your attempt to renew;
  4. The item(s) has (have) not been renewed thrice online.

Items eligible for renewal may be renewed online up to three (3) times.

 
How do I place a request (reserve) online?
You can place a request on checked-out Open Shelf book or Restricted Loan material (which has "Due" status) online by logging in to Library InfoWeb. A maximum of 3 (three) items can be requested at one time.

How do I check the status of my request(s)?
You can check the status of your request(s) by logging in to Library InfoWeb. If the status of the item is listed as "Pending", this means that the item is still on loan. When the item is returned, the status will become 'Available for pickup', you should then receive the availability notice through your TAR UMT Gmail.   
How do I login to access the Library’s online resources (online databases, e-books, e-journals, etc.)?
On the "Access to TAR UMT Library Online Resources" login page, enter your TAR UMT Intranet username and password.  

What can I do with the self-check station?
You can use the self-check station to borrow books.

What is the password to use the self-check station?
The password to use the self-check station is the same as the Library InfoWeb password.

What can I do with the book drop machine?
You can use the book drop machine to return books. Please insert one book at a time. Overdue fines (if any) can be paid during staffed service hours at the Service Counter, Postgraduate Library or at Service Counter, Level G, Main Library (during Main Library's operating hours only).
