With Chinese New Year just around the corner, TAR UC was pleased to welcome a group of representatives from Yayasan TRC, a foundation under TRC Synergy Bhd who came to give out Chinese New Year ang pows to deserving students in TAR UC. In conjunction with this, an ang pow presentation ceremony was organised at the Function Room in TAR UC’s Kuala Lumpur Main Campus on 17 January 2017 whereby a total of RM300 each was given out to 50 deserving students. These students were selected from among loan and scholarship recipients. Attending the event were Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Sufri bin Hj Mohd Zin, Trustee of Yayasan TRC and other senior officials of Yayasan TRC who were warmly welcomed by Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, President of TAR UC.

Datuk Dr Tan, in his speech, expressed his sincerest appreciation to Yayasan TRC for their kind gesture and support towards the students. He said, “Rooted in our philosophy of widening access to education for all Malaysians irrespective of race, creed and class, TAR UC provides a variety of scholarships, grants and study loans. Some types of financial aid offered to students are merit-based, while others take into consideration certain criteria such as the student’s academic performance, family financial background and/or their participation in extra-curricular activities. The various types of financial aid extended to the students have helped many deserving and needy students complete their education and have a better start in live. These have helped them to break away from the vicious cycle that their family is in. I believe that Yayasan TRC shares the same principle with TAR UC in this aspect.”

Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Sufri praised TAR UC’s quality education in his speech. He strongly commended TAR UC’s modules and syllabus which equip students to face wider challenges in the real world, noting that graduates of TAR UC are highly sought after. In fact, he was proud to announce that quite a number of the staff at his company are TAR UC graduates.  He was therefore honoured to be able to contribute to students of such high calibre.

The event then proceeded with the giving out of ang pows by Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Sufri to the students accompanied by Datuk Dr Tan. Among the students receiving the ang pows was Ivan Law Kai Wen, a Year 1 Diploma in Technology (Electronic Engineering) student who is currently under a study loan by TAR UC. Raised by a single mother, he said it has always been difficult for her to earn enough to support him and his sister as she is only a babysitter. He was indeed very grateful for being selected to receive the contribution by Yayasan TRC, saying, “This would definitely help in my studies. With this contribution, I am reminded to cherish what I have and what has been given to me. I am also motivated to be more hardworking in my studies.”
