A HomeComing Concert to Remember

One of the key highlights of TAR UC 50th Anniversary is the HomeComing Concert and it kicked off successfully in the evening on 16 March 2019 at the Main Hall. The audience was entertained with the singing of songs from different genres which was music to the ears. The TAR UC 50th Anniversary concert was specially curated and directed by TAR UC alumnus, Chong Keat Aun, who is a well-known award-winning film director, presenter, cultural activist and performing artist.

Under his artistic direction, the concert showcased mesmerizing performances by various popular local artistes which included Wayne Chua (NTV7 actress), Chrystina Ng (8TV Host and One FM DJ), Jan Chin (2014 NTV7 Golden Awards Most Popular Female Artiste), Chow Kam Leong (songwriter, composer, record producer, artist manager and musician), Stephanie Liew (Astro Star Quest 2010 1st Runner-Up), Jeffery Lim (singer) as well as Keat Aun himself. Wayne, Chrystina and Jan are all TAR UC alumni as well. 

Many VIPs also came for the concert and they were none other than Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik,  former Chairman of TAR College Council and his wife, Toh Puan Ena Ling, Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Chairman of the Board of Governors of TAR UC, Datuk Seri Yew Teong Look, Member of the Board of Trustees of TARC Education Foundation, Dr John Roberson, Executive Vice President of Campbell University, Dr Mark Hammond, Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost of Campbell University, Tan Sri Dr Ng Yen Yen, member of the TARC Education Foundation, Tan Sri Dato’ Lau Yin Pin, Member of the Board of Trustees of TARC Education Foundation, Dr Pamela Yong, Member of the Board of Governors of TAR UC and Senator Dato’ Ong Chong Swen,  member of the Senate.

Many songs were sung during the concert and it included Chinese songs composed by the famous TAR UC’s Red-Brick Society in the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s and 2010s and a few popular English songs. The songs composed by Red-Brick Society narrate the life of the students at TAR College then which include anecdotes that many alumni could relate to. About 500 concert goers at TAR UC Main Hall had a wonderful time enjoying the music and listening to the stories about the then TAR College days and banter shared by the hosts. The hosts consisting of Jan, Chrystina and Keat Aun, also interviewed several alumni from the audience who graduated in the very early years from TAR College. There was also the screening of the Laman music video with a new stanza added in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary celebration which had the audience singing along while watching the video being played.

For the night, TAR UC students from the TAR UC Choir Society also presented a rousing performance as they did the opening act at the concert much to the delight of the audience. Apart from that, they also accompanied the singers in singing a song composed by TAR UC students for the occasion, entitled, ‘Home’.
