Six TAR UC students banded together as a team to participate in the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (‘ICAEW’) Malaysia Business Challenge 2019 on 26 April 2019 and the team successfully clinched the Most Innovative Team award.

Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) Year 2 students Liew Hung Hian, Yap Chuan Min, Thon Ding Fong, Tan Jia Lok, Caroline Ng Yi-Wye and Bachelor of Accounting (Hons) Year 2 student Hew Ting Yi represented TAR UC and battled against 20 other teams from 17 other higher learning institutions in the competition that challenged participants to harness their creativity and innovation through business case studies.

“Every team was given a real-life case study and one hour to analyse the case and present our findings and suggestions to a panel of judges,” explained Liew, one of the team members.

Liew added that the team’s limited knowledge in a business case study competition was a huge obstacle during their preparation stages.

“But with the guidance of our mentor Mr Johan Lim Kii Geat (Associate Dean, Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business), we practised weeks ahead of the competition by tackling a vast array of business case study questions and getting constructive criticism for improvement.

“We also applied the same attitude we used during our studies at TAR UC such as strong determination and discipline to ensure we are always on track in practice. So we are well-prepared for the competition,” said Liew.

With the Most Innovative Team award, Liew was proud of what he and his team achieved at the ICAEW Malaysia Business Challenge 2019.

“You never know your limits unless you are in a pressured situation. In that regard, we have no regrets participating because the experience will help us in the long run,” he added.
