“If you want to make it in the media industry as a successful director, you have to take it one step at a time and not rush anything.”

The spotlight was shone on TAR UC alumnus Chong Keat Aun at the 55th Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival where his script for “The Southern Cursed Nail (南巫)” won the Content Digital Film Award under the Golden Horse Film Project Promotion (‘FPP’) category which took place from 13 – 15 November 2018.

The script was inspired by a folklore from his hometown in Kedah which centres on the theme of human nature, particularly vengeance. Filming is set to take place within the next two years.

No stranger to the media scene, Keat Aun graduated from the then TAR College with a Diploma in Journalism. He has numerous years of experience as a reporter, radio deejay, performing artist and creative director to name a few under his belt.

During an interview, Keat Aun imparted some advice for his juniors who aspire to make it in the media industry. “A film director is a good story-teller. If you want to make it in the media industry as a successful director, you have to take it one step at a time and not rush anything. It takes a lot of time and effort to create something that will have a lasting effect on the audience. So patience is a must,” he shared, citing that his own experience in the industry had taught him how to do things meticulously and not to cut corners.

He also shared that the education he received at TAR College had provided him with a well-rounded education and a solid foundation that enabled him to adjust well and thrive in the fast-paced media industry.
