The Department of Mata Pelajaran Pengajian Umum from the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities (‘FSSH’) organised their annual event, Pertandingan Pidato Bahasa Malaysia 2018 which was held on 5 December 2018. The theme for the debating competition was “Ke Arah 50” which means towards 50 years in the future. Five finalists shared their dreams and aspirations for the country in the coming 50 years which touched the hearts of the audience. Their confidence and spontaneous speech impressed both the adjudicators and the VIP guests.

The Challenge Trophy was won by Kelly Katrina Lau Hui Min who is studying her degree in Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Human Resource Management. The first runner-up was Leah Asher Dass A/P Michael Dass, Diploma in Business Studies (Business Administration) student. Nurul Asyiqin bt Mohd Ali, Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Bioscience with Chemistry was declared as the second runner-up winner. The consolation prizes were won by Goh Boon Kiong, Diploma in Business Studies (Accounting) and Tay Ming Cheong, Bachelor of Hospitality Management (Hons) students respectively.

The Dean of FSSH, Dr Karthiyani Shanmugam gave away the Challenge Trophy, books and cash vouchers to all the prize winners.
