It was a triumphant moment for Lee Yeap Theam, a Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) in Software Engineering student when he won the Silver medal in the IT Software Solutions for Business category at the WorldSkills Malaysia Belia (‘WSMB’) competition which was held in Shah Alam from 29 September – 2 October 2018.

Being the first student from TAR UC to win a medal in this category, Yeap Theam was over the moon as his hard work had finally paid off. “This is my third time participating in a competition. Previously, I didn’t manage to win anything but this time I am finally able to achieve something!” he commented. “Before this I was afraid of failure and always tried to avoid taking risks. But now I have become more confident to take on more challenges as I know that I will be able to overcome them.”

“Prior to this competition, I did my research on related practical questions to improve my skills. I also made sure that I had adequate sleep the night before,” shared Yeap Theam when asked how he prepared for the competition. “My lecturers also never hesitated to help whenever we ran into problems understanding the syllabus. TAR UC also provided me with the facilities and equipment to practice my programming skills which helped greatly in this competition.”

“I hope to join more competitions like this in the future to meet more people in this field. Everyone has a different arsenal of skills and knowledge and it’s great that I can expand my network with them and exchange knowledge as well.”
