On 14-15 June 2014, the Sport & Exercise Science Society of TAR University College, in partnership with the Malaysia Weiqi Association and the Kong Zi Institute University of Malaya, held the 4th Malaysia Weiqi Open Championship at Bangunan Tun Tan Siew Sin, Kuala Lumpur Main Campus. There were a total of 38 participants on the first day for the Dan Kyu and High Kyu event, which were the higher levels. On the second day, there were approximately 140 participants for all categories which included Dan Kyu, High Kyu, Inter Kyu, Low Kyu and TAR UCian Group. The first four categories were opened to the public and the TAR UCian Group category catered for TAR University College students.
The event was officially declared open by Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, President of TAR University College and co-organisers, Mr Chen Zhong, Director of Kong Zi Institute, and Mr Tiong Kee Soon, President of Malaysia Weiqi Association. Besides that, there were performances from a duo in rhythmic gymnastics and a cheerleading squad,“Rebels and Heroes”. The competition ended at 6pm on the second day, after which all the participants and VIPs gathered at the Auditorium for the closing ceremony and prize presentation.
