ASEAN Education in Ireland.

Two Bachelor of Quantity Surveying (Hons) graduates from TAR UC's Faculty of Built Environment ('FOBE') were the proud recipients of the Government of Ireland Scholarship, which was presented to them by His Excellency Eamon Hickey, Ambassador of Ireland to Malaysia on 5 August 2017.

With this scholarship, one of the recipients Tan Yi Jie will be pursuing her Master of Science in Quantity Surveying at the Limerick Institute of Technology ('LIT') and Wong Su Jean will be pursuing her Master of Science in International Business Studies at Cork Institute of Technology ('CIT').

On her reason for pursuing her postgraduate programme, Yi Jie shared that it was because she yearns to become a contributor, not just a learner. "Postgraduate students are expected to conduct independent research on emerging issues in their respective fields. Pursuing my postgraduate studies will equip me with more knowledge in the field of quantity surveying and allow me to pursue it at a deeper level."

"In the future, I would like to become a committee member of the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia ('BQSM') as well as a chartered surveyor with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors ('RICS')," she added. "Given the opportunity, I will also contribute as a lecturer to encourage students in their education journey and advise them in the field of quantity surveying."

With both parents in the construction industry, Wong Su Jean has been exposed to the various opportunities in the industry by her parents. On her decision to pursue a Master of Science in International Business Studies instead, Su Jean said that it was to enhance her knowledge which will be useful in building her career.

"I decided that rather than limiting my options to the construction industry, it might be a good idea to branch out and broaden my horizon. With this new qualification, I can try new opportunities outside the field of construction," she elaborated.

Aside from that, the two high achievers also praised TAR UC's excellent academic teaching and comprehensive syllabus which helped them develop the skills they needed in a real-life working environment.

Su Jean also complemented the wide reach of TAR UC alumni. "The best thing that TAR UC has to offer is its incredible network of people. TAR UC alumni have branched out far and wide and there are many TAR UC graduates working and studying in Ireland that I can connect with. This will be of great help to me in transitioning into a new environment when studying abroad," she shared.
