TAR UC and Senheng Join Forces Through Academia-Industry Collaboration

A Memorandum of Understanding (‘MoU’) signed between TAR UC and Senheng Electric (KL) Sdn Bhd on 12 April 2022 signifies the start of new academia-industry relations and the launch of the Senheng Scholarship.

The MoU was signed by Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UC and Mr Lim Kim Heng, Executive Chairman of Senheng Electric (KL) Sdn Bhd who is TAR UC alumnus. Present to witness the formalisation of this academia-industry partnership was YB Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, TARC Education Foundation & Minister of Transport, members of TAR UC’s Board of Governors including its Chairman, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai and members of the Board of Trustees, TARC Education Foundation, as well as Mr Lim Kim Chieng, President of Senheng Electric (KL) Sdn Bhd who is also TAR UC alumnus.  

“We always seek opportunities to work with companies who share the same values of supporting deserving and high-performing students so that they can achieve their ambitions and transform their future. We also believe in helping students in need, with the hope they can succeed and in return, extend their helping hands to others,” said Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong, who attended the signing ceremony as Guest of Honour, in his welcoming remarks.

This academia-industry collaboration will focus on the development and cooperation between both parties to provide educators and students with exposure and insights to the best industry practices. It would also enable TAR UC students and graduates to gain practical exposure through internship and employment opportunities with Senheng. Furthermore, a Research and Development Centre will also be established at TAR UC to identify project specification for mutual collaboration.

As a gesture of support to TAR UC’s vision and mission in providing quality and affordable education, Senheng Electric (KL) Sdn Bhd also set up the Senheng Scholarship with an allocation of RM5 million over 10 years, which will provide up to RM500,000 per annum worth of scholarships to eligible TAR UC students following the signing of the MoU.

“In the long run, I hope TAR UC will continue to foster sustainable relationships with industry leaders and continuously extend its Beyond Education learning experience to TARCians, leading them to a fulfilling life and career,” added Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong.
