TARCian Strikes Gold with Award-winning Essay

Kah Meng hopes to become a researcher after completing his studies.

When Ang Kah Meng submitted his entry to the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2019, the A-Level student did not expect to get anything out of it.

But a pleasant surprise came in early September when the results were announced. The 19-year old found out he was a Gold Award winner in the Senior category for his essay themed ‘We are all connected by the Internet – Stephen Hawking. What does the future hold for mankind?’.

“At first I did not expect to win anything because I heard the competition was very tough. So I was amazed when I won the Gold Award. But I am really happy to have achieved this recognition for my efforts,” said Kah Meng beaming with joy.

The annual Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition organised by the Royal Commonwealth Society attracts countless aspiring writers from the Commonwealth nations, with the 2019 edition drawing in over 11,000 entries.

“I would like to thank my lecturer Mr Teddy Nelson for encouraging me to join this competition and helping me to improve my writing skills while I was working on this essay. His support helped me balance my studies and write the essay,” Kah Meng quipped.

Although he aspires to become a researcher, Kah Meng still believes his passion is writing.

“I like to express myself through words and writing helps me develop my own creativity as well,” he added.
