The opening ceremony for the July Blood Donation Campaign (‘JBDC’) was held on 25 July 2017 at TAR UC Main Hall. With three simultaneous hits on the gong by Dr Tun Maizura Bt Mohd Fathullah, Head of Blood Procurement Division, National Blood Centre and Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, President of TAR UC, the annual campaign was officially launched.

Organised by the First Aid Unit (‘FAU’) in collaboration with the National Blood Unit, the July Blood Donation Campaign is the second campaign held this year. Befittingly themed “Small Action, Big Difference, Donate Blood”, it perfectly captured how a simple act of giving can have a big impact on someone’s life.

“This campaign is organised to spread awareness on how important blood donation drives are and the effects it has on society at large”, said Ms Leong Bao Yi, Chairperson of the JBDC. “We encourage the public to participate in blood donation campaigns such as this because you never know when it will be needed.”

In recognition of the positive impact created by TAR UC’s blood donation campaigns, Dr Tun Maizura Bt Mohd Fathullah applauded the University College, stating that over the years TAR UC has become the National Blood Centre’s highest contributor at the Institution of Higher Learning level.

Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok also praised the organising committee and participants for their gallant initiatives. “Looking at the increasing support from TAR UC students towards this campaign, I am very proud of TAR UC students for voluntarily giving this gift of life to those in need,” he said. “Through this portrayal of basic human kindness, it is evident that TAR UC not only emphasises on academic excellence, but the institution is also committed to inculcating the spirit of social responsibility and volunteerism among the students to contribute back to the society.”

After the launch, Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok and Dr Tun Maizura Bt Mohd Fathullah were led by FAU members to the blood donation area to give the donors encouragement and commend them for their selflessness.
