TAR UC Student Wins Prize in ICSA Examination

Oh Ai Yong, the Ambank Group Prize winner for best paper in Corporate Financial Management in the external ICSA December 2018 examination.

Oh Ai Yong, a TAR UC Bachelor of Corporate Administration (Hons) student who hails from SMK Dato' Penggawa Barat, Johor, was recently awarded  The Ambank Group Prize for best paper in Corporate Financial Management in the external ICSA December 2018 examination.

In the past, the Bachelor of Corporate Administration (Hons) students would only take the external ICSA examination after they had completed their study. However, the students who sat for the external ICSA December 2018 sitting are the first cohort of students who attempted the external ICSA paper in their final year of study, i.e. before they graduate.

On what motivated her to succeed, she said: “Parental support is a very important element in my educational journey. There were surely times when I felt like giving up, but thinking of their happy faces because of my success makes all the hard work I put in worthwhile.”

Ai Yong personally felt that her lecturers at TAR UC were really good. “A special thanks to Dr Wong Mei Foong, my lecturer for teaching me the Financial Decision Making. She is so knowledgeable in this subject and has always been so patient in delivering her lectures. This subject has built a strong foundation in preparing me for the Corporate Financial Management paper of MAICSA.”

She then spoke at length about her formula for success. “The Corporate Financial Management is a subject that involves a lot of calculation. My method of studying is to firstly build a strong understanding of the underlying concept, procedures and relationship between finance formulas and methods. Only when we have a good understanding, are we better equipped to analyse complex questions in the MAICSA paper. Also, practising MAICSA past year papers allowed me to be more familiar with the trend of questions.”

This young lady has the intention to venture into the corporate secretarial field once she graduates in May 2019. “My interest and passion to serve in the corporate secretarial field developed over the course of my programme. As most of my lecturers have served in this field, I have gained a lot of exposure from their sharing, which I believe would be a great advantage to my future career.”

Ai Yong has a piece of advice which she would like to share with those who wish to emulate her success. “To be honest, I have always dreamed of being a book prize winner for MAICSA papers. So, dare to dream big. Do not worry about hitting your target. Just be well prepared and bring out the best in you during your examination. There is a quote which always motivates me, that is, “Someone has to win, why not you?”
