Much to the excitement of TAR UC alumni, staff and students, the 6th Alumni – TAR UC Sports Challenge was held at various venues within the Kuala Lumpur Main Campus on 8 October 2016. A clear demonstration of the spirit of sportsmanship and enthusiasm could be seen emanating from each player. There were nine different games for participants to take part in which were volleyball, badminton, table tennis, water polo, futsal, carrom, darts, mahjong and 3 on 3 basketball. The Alumni – TAR UC Sports Challenge 2016 was held in conjunction with Hari Sukan Negara 2016.

The event, jointly organised by the Federation of TAR UC Alumni Associations and TAR UC, saw a participation of more than 300 people. Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, President of TAR UC, Assoc Prof Say Sok Kwan, Vice President of TAR UC, Mr Adrian Yeo, President of Federation of TAR UC Alumni Associations and Mr Mark Hew, Organising Chairman of the Alumni – TAR UC Sports Challenge 2016, made the first throws of a basketball into the hoop to start off the event.

The alumni, staff and students showed an amazing spirit of sportsmanship which was evident throughout the various matches held that day. The Alumni – TAR UC Sports Challenge served as a good platform in bringing together fellow alumni, staff and students of TAR UC to network, share experience and to inculcate the spirit of esprit de corps among them.

Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok was impressed with the turnout at the challenge and the camaraderie. “It is my fervent hope that this meaningful sports event would also help to play the role in fostering a stronger and closer bond between the University College and our alumni. This is indeed a great opportunity for fellow TARCians to reconnect with old friends, mingle with students and staff as well as revisit their alma mater,” said Datuk Dr Tan.

Mr Adrian Yeo also added that it was the sixth time that they were having this Alumni – TAR UC Sports Challenge and that they would like to keep doing it. “Next year, we would send an alumni team to Penang and Perak Branch Campus to compete. I would like to thank the organising committee for putting in the hard work and effort in making this event a meaningful gathering.”

After all the games were completed, the prize giving ceremony was held on stage. The Challenge Trophy for the overall winning team went to the Alumni team.
