TAR UC has once again continued its reign as the Champion in the Cisco NetRiders Malaysia 2016 Competition which was held on 15 September 2016. Apart from emerging as the Champion for the 3rd consecutive year, TAR UC also made a clean sweep at this year’s competition in the CCNA category by clinching the 1st Runner-up 2nd Runner-up spots as well. The national level of the competition was organised by Multimedia Development Corporation and Cisco Networking Academy Malaysia where the competition provides a valuable opportunity for students to showcase their networking abilities, learn new IT skills and gain visibility among talent recruiters in the growing ICT and networking field.

Jeffrey Ting Ming Yeong who is a final year student of the Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) in Information Security emerged as the champion, beating 660 other registered participants. Jeffrey who competed in the CCNA category faced many challenges in preparation for the competition. “It was a very challenging experience for me as my examinations were around the same time as the competition, giving me very little time to be fully prepared for the competition. To make matters worse, I was not in the best of health on the day of the competition as I was down with fever.  All these, however, did not affect my determination to do my best and I am overjoyed that I pulled through. Besides this, I am very fortunate to be studying in TAR UC where my lecturers are very knowledgeable in the Cisco Networking programme, and as such, they provided good guidance for me in preparation for the competition,” Jeffrey shared in a cheerful mood. He won for himself RM500 cash prize, a Challenge Trophy, a Roccat Renga gaming headset and a certificate.

Having emerged as the Champion in the national leg of the competition, Jeffrey will be representing Malaysia in the Cisco NetRiders Asia Pacific and Japan Level (Round-3: Finals) which will be taking place on 21 October 2016 in Kuala Lumpur.

The other TAR UC students who participated in the CCNA category were Ang Chyr Hui, a final year student of the Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) in Software Systems Development who took the 1st Runner-up spot and Chong Jen Foong, another final year student of the Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) in Software Systems Development who emerged as the 2nd Runner-up.
