In commemorating TAR UC turning 50 years old, the Federation of Tunku Abdul Rahman College Alumni Associations Malaysia launched the TARC Historical Series 2 – The Pioneers booklet on 7 March 2019. Among the distinguished guests present at the book launch included Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of TARC Education Foundation, Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Chairman of the Board of Governors of TAR UC, Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UC and Mr Adrian Yeo, President of Federation of Tunku Abdul Rahman College Alumni Associations Malaysia. Also present were 2 important past leaders of TAR UC whose stories are captured in the book namely  Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik, former Chairman of TAR College Council and Dato’ Dr Lim Khaik Leang, former Principal of TAR College. In addition, the book also records the sharing by Tan Sri Lee San Choon, former Trustee of TAR College and Mr Tan Chang Soong, the first Deputy Registrar of TAR College.

In his welcoming address, Mr Adrian Yeo briefly shared on the contents of the newly launched booklet. “This Historical Series 2 booklet is modest but is a gem with great insights documenting the struggles, blood, sweat and tears during the formative years of TAR College,” he shared.

Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee in his speech highlighted the contribution of each leader which is captured in the booklet. “As the saying goes, “when the going gets tough, the tough get going.” It perfectly sums up the great courage and determination of these founding leaders when they had to shoulder the heavy responsibilities and face the difficulties in the early years. Yet they have shown us that when there is a will, there is a way. Hats off to Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik’s numerous and creative fundraising activities that eventually raised RM25 million to make the Kuala Lumpur Main Campus expansion and the establishment of our branch campuses possible. How can we not be inspired by the fervour of Tan Sri Lee San Choon in traversing the country to raise funds and convincing the authorities to approve the setting up of TAR College! And the great foresight of Dato’ Dr Lim Khaik Leang, as the Principal of TAR College, led the development of Phase 2 and Phase 3 of Kuala Lumpur Campus in order to accommodate more students. Not forgetting the dedication of Mr Tan Chang Soong, who was part of the Working Team for Higher Education Planning and drafted the Blueprint for TAR College. Their commitment to this cause is an important lesson for us to learn and an inspiration to the TARC community”, he related.

YBhg Dato’ Dr Lim Khaik Leang and YABhg Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik also took the opportunity to share a thing or two about their journey in the then TAR College in a short sharing session with the attendees at the event.
