TAR UC has inked a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (‘FMM’) on 15 June 2022 signifying a mutually beneficial academia-industry collaboration.

The objectives of this collaboration are to encourage academia-industry collaboration, to provide the platform for high impact academia-industry activities and to develop and nurture industry ready graduates and talents.

Specifically under this MoU, TAR UC and FMM will endeavour to undertake activities such as (1) industry engagement in core academia activities including curriculum development, programmes enhancement and dynamic Teaching and Learning (T&L), (2) participate in Research and Development (R&D) and Innovation projects using external grants, (3) involvement in joint-activities such as training, workshop, seminars and conferences as well as (4) facilitate industry linkages for students and lecturers to enhance their knowledge and exposure to real industry working environment, amongst others.

The MoU was signed by Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UC and Datuk Dr Yeoh Oon Tean, Chief Executive Officer of FMM. Present to witness the formalisation of this academia-industry partnership were Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Chairman of the Board of Governors of TAR UC, as well as Tan Sri Dato’ Soh Thian Lai, FMM President.

“TAR UC will continue to collaborate with the industry especially the members from FMM to support the industry with the current facilities and produce high quality graduates to fulfil the demand for talents from various disciplines in the industry,” said Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai.

“This collaboration is certainly timely as it will create synergies that will benefit the industry as well as our students to prepare them well for the working world. We aim to future-proof our graduates in line with our Beyond Education learning philosophy through fruitful partnership with the industry and the collaboration with FMM definitely complements our vision and mission. We look forward to working closely with FMM to ensure the success of this collaboration,” said Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei.

According to Tan Sri Dato’ Soh Thian Lai, “Universities and the industry must come together in a working symbiotic relationship to find the common ground to meet each other’s needs and create a sustainable win-win situation for all. Academics have a great responsibility to produce work-ready graduates. As such, they must collaborate with the industry creatively in identifying the actual industry needs and reducing the industry skill gaps.”
