What happens when you gather close to 200 students from universities around the world at one location for two days of networking and learning?

The inaugural TAR UC International Student Conference 2019 ('ISC 2019') held on 25 and 26 October 2019 at the Kuala Lumpur Main Campus clearly has the answer as evidenced by  the participating students who were pleasantly surprised at the fact that this was no ordinary event, when it resulted in them having an awesome time learning about new stuff and making new friends.

With the theme "Building Bridges, Creating Possibilities", the ISC 2019 was organised by the Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business, in partnership with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants ('ACCA'), Coventry University, Shanghai Lixin University of Accounting and Finance and Zhejiang Financial College,

In his welcoming address, Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UC, said that the conference participants would stand to gain useful knowledge on industry-specific issues. "Today, we have students from Malaysia, China, Indonesia and the UK gathered here for this conference, and I believe that such an event represents a good opportunity to promote better understanding amongst students from different countries," he said. "I hope that you would find the programme to be fun yet insightful and eye-opening, and I am sure that many of the participants here will build many beneficial networks and connections during the conference."

Dato’ Lock Peng Kuan, member of ACCA Global Council thanked TAR UC in his keynote address for hosting this event. “ACCA values the partnership with TAR UC, which has been going strong for the past 48 years. We certainly look forward to many more meaningful milestones to come,” he said. "ACCA believes in the power of connection, and this event is the ideal platform to build long-lasting links."

"The speakers at the conference were vastly experienced, and I could see that they engaged the audience in a really interesting way," Mohammad Tanzil Siddique, 19, from Coventry University said. "The advice given by these experts will prove useful to me in choosing my future career."

Meanwhile, Liu Hanqiu, 21, from Shanghai Lixin University of Accounting and Finance, managed to make some new acquaintances during the conference. "I met many people from different countries here, and I found that interacting with them helped me to better understand different cultures. I am happy with the network of new friends that I have made here," she said.

At the end of the 2-day conference, the students took  with them many memorable experiences and gained many valuable insights. More importantly, they managed to build enduring relationships with participants from other countries.
