TAR UC will be entering into a collaboration with Peking University, a premier university in China to conduct the Agriculture 4.0 – Ginger Research. The new collaboration will be focusing on Agriculture 4.0, which is an analogy to Industry 4.0. Agriculture 4.0 revolves around the use of digital and automation technology to improve precision and efficacy in farming. The new collaboration will be primarily focusing on the cultivation of Bentong ginger.

TAR UC will be sharing its expertise with Peking University to develop sustainable cultivation methods for Bentong ginger and to improve the production of ginger by leveraging on Agriculture 4.0. This collaboration will be timely as ginger producers in Bentong have been facing sustainability challenges where farmers need to search for new planting sites after every planting season.  With that in mind, the collaboration aims squarely at tackling these challenges to come up with practical and sustainable solutions that will help in Bentong ginger production.

A tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (‘MoU’) on Agriculture 4.0 – Bentong Ginger R&D will be signed between TAR UC, Dongguan Institute of Opto-Electronics of Peking University and Persatuan Budaya Seni dan Warisan Bentong to formalise the collaboration on 28 October 2017 at Sari Cempaka, Karak. At the same ceremony, the ground breaking ceremony for the Bentong Ginger House will also take place.

Subsequent to the signing of the MoU, a forum on ‘Agriculture 4.0’ will be held on 30 October 2017 at the Auditorium, TAR UC Kuala Lumpur Main Campus. The forum will involve discussion on the maturity of Agriculture 4.0, Challenges and Opportunities. The forum is specifically organised for researchers, industrial players, stakeholders and farmers.
