In an effort to reduce the consumption of electricity around TAR UC, the Tutup-lah “Tak Susah Pun!” electricity conservation campaign was launched on 9 April 2019.

The brainchild of a total of 15 students from TAR UC’s Bachelor of Communication (Hons) in Broadcasting and Bachelor of Communication (Hons) in Media Studies programmes, Tutup-lah “Tak Susah Pun!” – which translates to ‘just turn it off, it is not that hard’, is a campaign aimed to create awareness amongst the TAR UC community on how the simple act of switching off all electrical appliances after using a classroom goes a long way, as well as urge people to change their behaviour.

“Energy does not only cost money, but it also affects the environment,” said Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UC during his opening speech. “I urge everyone here in the campus to always keep in mind that wasting electricity would also cost us the environment. Therefore it is our responsibility to do our part in conserving electricity”.

The campaign was officially launched with Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei and Ms Dearna Kee, Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Creative Industries (‘FCCI’) flipping the switch to “Tutup-Lah”.

Adam Wong, Organising Chairman of this campaign proudly shared that he was happy with the outcome albeit the rollercoaster challenges that he and his team faced prior to the launch. “This campaign is the first electricity conservation campaign being carried out. So it is something that’s very new to us. Moreover, there are only 15 of us and a limited amount of time to pull this off.”

“Our message to all students and staff is not to take electricity for granted and actively play a role to conserve electricity here on campus. Just tutup-lah, tak susah pun!”

“From the time the topic was revealed to them 6 weeks ago, they went full force in planning to prepare a proposal, ideation, concepts and developing the messages to shooting the videos, conducting demonstrations around the UC, and finally the launch and exhibition,” shared Ms Josephine Ng, Lecturer from the Department of Communication, FCCI, who was also the advisor for this event.

The exhibition was held at Red Bricks Cafeteria from 9 – 11 April 2019.
