In line with TAR UC's lifelong mission of providing accessible tertiary education to deserving Malaysians, the SSP 1975 Scholarship has awarded two TAR UC students the financial assistance to help them further their studies at TAR UC and achieve their future career dreams.

Tan Sharen, a Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Marketing student and Choo Zhou Min, a Bachelor of Public Relations (Hons) student were named as the two new awardees under this scholarship during a virtual presentation ceremony on 6 August 2021, that was attended by Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UC.

"Since TAR UC's beginnings as TAR College in 1969, we have upheld the mission and vision to provide affordable and quality education to deserving and needy students regardless of their background, giving them the opportunity to enrich their future through tertiary education.

"During today's challenging period, these financial assistance initiatives are even more imperative, and TAR UC is honoured to work with SSP 1975 in this scholarship to help our students financially," said Prof Ir Dr Lee.

The SSP 1975 Scholarship was the brainchild of former students of Sekolah Sri Perhentian (SSP) from Pontian, Johor, where some of them went on to further their studies at the then TAR College. Set up in 2016, the scholarship was to help TAR UC students from Pontian complete their tertiary education that will lead them to a brighter future .

"This scholarship was set up in honour of our beloved hometown Pontian, and to lend financial aid to students from Pontian so that they will be able to focus on achieving academic success. Everyone of us in the SSP 1975 Scholarship committee look forward to the successful graduations of our two new award recipients, and may they achieve their career dreams," said Mr Hugh Koh, a TAR UC alumni and one of the pioneers of the SSP 1975 Scholarship.

With the addition of Sharen and Zhou Min, the SSP 1975 Scholarship has benefitted seven TAR UC students since its formation.
