The development of Industrial Revolution 4.0 in Malaysia took a giant step forward with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (‘MoU’) between Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (‘TAR UC’) and Malaysia Productivity Corporation (‘MPC’), a statutory body under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI).

Under the MoU, both parties will jointly collaborate to set up an Industrial 4.0 Technology Expert Centre. This centre will encourage higher participation and accelerate adoption of Industrial Revolution 4.0 (‘IR 4.0’) among local companies, especially small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in the electrical and electronic sector. A peer learning platform will also be developed that will provide direct assistance to these SMEs to achieve performance breakthrough upon implementation of IR 4.0.

TAR UC will assist and provide consultancy and guidance to SMEs for the development and implementation of Industrial 4.0 programmes, assist with the training, workforce and software framework development among SMEs which aspire to embark on their IR 4.0 journey, and participate in marketplace activities and match making in any relevant IR 4.0 events.

The MoU was signed at a ceremony on 7 November 2019 at Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre, held in conjunction with MPC’s Annual Productivity and Innovative Conference and Exposition 2019. Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UC signed the MoU on behalf of TAR UC at the ceremony. The guests of honour at the event were YB Datuk Darrell Leiking, Minister of International Trade and Industry and Tian Chua, Chairman of MPC.

“I am pleased that TAR UC and MPC have initiated this historic collaboration, which will take the development of IR 4.0 to greater heights in Malaysia,” said Prof Ir Dr Lee. “It is my belief that these Technology Expert Centres will be able to spur Malaysian SMEs to make optimum use of IR 4.0 technologies to improve their operations.”
