TAR UC student Chai June Rong’s win in the E-Genting Programming Competition 2018 reflects the top-notch quality of TAR UC’s ICT education. June Rong completed his Diploma in Software Engineering and is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) in Software Engineering in TAR UC. June Rong won the Merit Prize which came with cash prize of RM200 and a certificate of achievement in the annually held competition that took place on 10 November 2018.

June Rong recalled the challenges he faced during the competition and how his studies in TAR UC helped him to overcome those difficulties. “The competition’s requirements were complex, causing me to use up some time to properly understand the questions. Then, having to produce a solution without using a computer was another strenuous requirement and this task demanded me to thoroughly think through my flow of solutions before writing them down manually and this process also took up ample time. Therefore, time constraint was a major obstacle for me. However, at that point that I realised the strong fundamentals I have developed in my diploma programme which helped me tremendously in the competition. For example, the in-depth C/C++ programming and syntaxes I have learnt in my diploma helped me to produce the solutions within the time given,” June Rong explained.

June Rong who completed his Form 5 in Sekolah Menengah Puteri Wangsa competed against approximately 200 participants from more than 10 institutes of higher learning in the competition.
